Ziagen (Abacavir Sulfate) – Tablets — Product Details
Ziagen (Abacavir Sulfate) is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) prescribed as part of antiretroviral therapy (ART) for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. It works by interfering with the virus’s ability to replicate, helping to lower viral load and improve immune function when used with other HIV medications.
Ziagen is available in two forms: 300mg tablets and a 20mg/mL oral solution, offering flexibility for patients who prefer or require liquid formulations.
- Part of a complete HIV treatment regimen (not used alone)
- Helps reduce viral load and increase CD4 (T) cell counts
- May improve quality of life and reduce risk of HIV-related complications
- Available as a tablet or oral solution
Important Note: Patients must be screened for the HLA-B*5701 allele before starting treatment due to the risk of serious hypersensitivity reactions. Seek immediate medical help if symptoms of rash, fever, or respiratory issues occur.
