Prilosec (omeprazole) belongs to group of drugs called proton pump inhibitors. Omeprazole decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach. Prilosec is used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions caused by excess stomach acid.
